Work has begun on the $100 million Gold Coast Airport terminal redevelopment.

Travelers through Gold Coast Airport will notice preliminary tarmac and drainage works with reconstruction of the terminal beginning in July.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Paul Donovan said the initial works were being staged to ensure no disruption to airline passenger services and minimal night works for local residents.

Stage one of the redevelopment is set to more than double the size of the existing building to 27,000 square metres to cater for forecast passenger growth over the next ten years. A further expansion (stage 2) will begin as demand dictates.

"When finished, our terminal will be the first purpose-built facility specifically designed to cater for low cost airlines and their passengers," Mr Donovan said.
